This Friday, try something new. Try something different. Be a part of art/culture/music in Milwaukee and check out this event happening Friday, Feb.5th @ the Miramar (Oakland & Locust) From 7-10pm. Hosted by The Cranberry Show and Sponsored by ill mill Apparel and The Euro Club (and of course your friends @hotpop.)

It’s going down like this: before the event clothing lines have been invited to participate. Each company can submit up to 3 designs for judging. They then had an online & printed vote for the top 3 designs from 3 clothing lines. The 3 winners were then invited to do a small fashion show at the Miramar.

A second judging will take place between the intermission of the show, and as the show finishes they will present the winner of the most voted/top clothing line. That winner will receive prizes. Please check below for details. Included in the night will be a “dopest” t-shirt contest. Any company can enter and will receive a prize!

Along with the fashion show they will be presenting the most unique, creative and up & coming hip-hop acts from Milwaukee and Chicago.

Contest Prizes

The winner & top clothing line of the night with receive:

- A complementary photo shoot with music & fashion photographer David Szymanski. This includes 3 outfit changes and 2 locations.

- A visual display in Hotpop, Moda 3 and Flow of the winning clothing line. The amount of time that the display is displayed depends on each individual store.

Pointless Propaganda is coming back around with the 2nd installment on Thursday the 10th! Come down to MOCT and let all artists involved tell you what to think!

Next up is Pezzettino Vinyl Release party on Friday the 11th at where else? hot*pop! Party starts at 7pm. Pezzetino’s performance is divided into 4 parts, with D-WOOD of No Request Sound spinning during intermissions and Dwellephant doing live album art! Pezzetino will be signing vinyl at the end of the evening.

This Saturday at Turner Hall is the 2nd annual Urban Garage Sale!  Over 30 stores will be in attendance to offer deep discounts on Clothing, Shoes, Artwork and Gifts! Also, WMSE will have your favorite Djs on hand to keep the music going all day AND Pabst will be giving away FREE TALLBOYS!!!!

Yesterday we applied for an account with a Japanese company’s fashion/accessory/fun collection of goods. Unfortunately they do not sell outside of Japan, but the email made me smile despite the bad news.

“Mattew Ryan Sharp is a painter, illustrator and graphic designer that lives, works and “makes things” in the semi-clean outskirts of Chicago where he resides with his wife and three pugs. If you were to ask Matthew what exactly it is that he does, you may get a response similar to: “I paint stuff on things”. This response is not very in depth but it is fairly accurate.

Matthew drips, draws, sprays, splatters, pastes and paints his character-based social observations on wood, paper or any other surface he may have “found” in a dumpster/local construction site.

The new body of work that was created specifically for this show is a step in a new, more detailed direction that consistes of multiple layers and a more coheasive visual narrative compared to previous works. If you do not enjoy the color brown, ice cream, nostalgia, mustaches, top hates, dapper gentlemen, suspenders, clowns, mimes, booze, bowler hats, knives, playing cards, ghosts, inverted crosses, skulls, name tags, magicians, imperfect painting techniques, carnivals, vegabonds, drifters, the color orange, midwestern living, large teeth, the dustbowl or acrylic paint…you probably will not enjoy this exhibition. Hopefully these new paintings will brighten up your day, but if not, thats cool too.”
